The Story Behind
Every Thread
If our About page is the 'why,' this is the 'how.' The moments of doubt, the happy accidents, the late-night chai with artisans that changed everything.
The Messy, Beautiful Beginning
I'll be honest: in the beginning, the two sides of me were at war. The MBA graduate in me wanted five-year plans, predictable supply chains, and measurable outcomes. The artist in me just wanted to be surrounded by the smell of natural dyes and the magic of a pattern coming to life on fabric.
There were days I felt like I was failing at both. I would sit with spreadsheets trying to forecast inventory, completely forgetting the unpredictable beauty of a monsoon rain delaying a dye batch.
I met with artisans who were masters of their craft but were used to working for speed, not the obsessive quality I was searching for. There were moments of doubt so heavy I wondered if this dream was too big, too impractical.
The Journey So Far
A young MBA graduate returns to her hometown of Bagru and falls in love with the rhythmic thump of wooden blocks on cotton — deciding to build a bridge between this ancient craft and the modern world.
Sitting with master artisan Ramesh Ji, feeling discouraged, a simple cup of chai and five words — "the cloth tells us when it is thirsty" — reframe the entire philosophy of SA Fab.
Together with artisan partners, SA Fab stops being "my company" and becomes "our company" — built on shared values: pre-washed premium cotton, superior stitching, and radical honesty about the slow, deliberate nature of handcraft.
An artisan's joke — that a husband and wife wearing the same print would double its happiness — sparks what becomes SA Fab's most beloved signature: the couple matching collection.
SA Fab has grown to support 200+ artisan families, 500+ unique block designs, and a community of 10,000+ customers across India — each one a thread in a tapestry still being woven.
A Shared Cup of Chai
Everything changed one afternoon in Bagru. I was sitting with Ramesh Ji, one of our first master artisan partners, feeling discouraged. We were discussing the extra time it took to get the perfect, deep indigo shade I envisioned.
"Saloni ji, the dye will be ready when it is ready. The cloth tells us when it is thirsty. You cannot rush a story."
— Ramesh Ji, Master Block Print Artisan · BagruIn that moment, he wasn't just talking about the dye. He was teaching me the entire philosophy of this craft. My MBA spreadsheets didn't matter here. What mattered was patience. Respect for the materials. Trust in the process. He wasn't just an employee — he was my teacher.
Promises Woven Into Every Thread
Every piece made from pre-washed, premium 60/60 cotton — soft from the first wear and won't shrink. Superior stitching because a beautiful print deserves a garment that lasts.
We committed to transparency — sharing the challenges as well as the triumphs. Being honest about the slow, deliberate time it takes to create something truly by hand.
Our "Partners in Joy" collection wasn't a marketing gimmick — it was born from an artisan's wisdom that wearing the same print as someone you love doubles its happiness.
"In the tapestry of life, every thread matters. Thank you for being one of the brightest threads in ours."
We are still that small brand with a big heart, dreaming of a world that values the handmade. Our goal is to continue to be a bridge between you and the incredible artisans of Bagru — to champion ethical practices and create pieces that bring you as much joy to wear as they bring us to create.
This journey has been one of growth, challenges, and immense joy. And the most beautiful part is that it is still being written, every single day, with every block that is printed and every person who chooses to wear our story.
