Matching Sibling Outfits — Hand Block Printed in Bagru, Jaipur

Every set of matching sibling outfits in this collection is block printed by hand in Bagru, Rajasthan. The Chhipa community has practised natural dye block printing here for over 450 years. A Chhipa artisan presses the same hand-carved wooden block into the same natural dye paste and stamps it onto two separate pieces of pure cotton — one for the brother, one for the sister. The print is pressed from the same block in the same dye session. As a result, the coordination is genuine. Not printed to look matching. Actually matched at the source, from the same block, in the same natural dye bath.

Each set includes a half sleeve block print shirt for the brother and a block printed one piece dress for the sister — both in the same print and natural dye colour. The silhouettes are cut differently for each wearer, but the print connects them visually and unmistakably. These are pure cotton pieces — breathable, comfortable through full festival days, and washable at home after the occasion.

We also carry three cousin matching outfit sets — the same shirt and one piece combination, styled and titled for cousin coordination rather than sibling pairing. All 13 sets in this collection work equally well for siblings and cousins.

What’s in Each Sibling Matching Set

Brother’s Half Sleeve Block Print Shirt

The brother’s piece is a half sleeve pure cotton shirt — button-through front, standard collar, block printed across the chest and back in the same motif as the sister’s dress. The half sleeve cut is chosen because it is the most comfortable and practical shirt silhouette for young men and boys through active festival days. The shirt wears well over plain trousers, chinos, or jeans — which means it continues as an independent wardrobe piece long after the occasion it was bought for.

Sister’s One Piece Block Print Dress

The sister’s piece is a pure cotton one piece dress — block printed in the same print as the shirt. The silhouette is a relaxed, A-line cut that works across a wide age range. It is comfortable through long event days and does not restrict movement the way heavily structured festive dresses do. Furthermore, the block print dress works as a standalone festive piece for multiple occasions after the initial sibling coordination — it does not read as exclusively a “matching outfit” when worn independently.

Why Both Pieces Are Pure Cotton

Festival days in India — Rakhi, Navratri, Diwali, Holi, family weddings — are typically long, often involve outdoor settings, and can include heat and activity that synthetic fabrics handle poorly. Pure cotton breathes, stays cool, and does not cling in heat the way polyester or rayon does. Since natural dyes carry no synthetic coating on the fabric surface, the cotton breathes even more freely. As a result, our sibling matching sets are genuinely comfortable through full festival days — not just for the photographs.

What’s in This Collection

13 matching sibling and cousin sets across three print styles:

Floral & Botanical Prints

Our floral and botanical styles — Indigo Floral, Rich Brown Floral, Mahogany Red Leaf, Natural Red Dotted, White & Indigo Leaf — carry trailing botanical motifs and organic repeat patterns in natural dye colours. These are the most festive and visually warm styles in the collection. Indigo Floral and White & Indigo Leaf work particularly well for Navratri and Diwali where cooler blue tones suit the festive colour palette. Rich Brown Floral and Mahogany Red Leaf carry warmer earth tones that suit family weddings and cultural events.

Geometric & Zigzag Prints

Our geometric styles — Black Coffee Zigzag, Indigo Mosaic, Indigo Small Motif, Cherry Oak Small Motif — carry bolder, more graphic patterns. These are the most contemporary styles in the collection and the easiest for the pieces to work as independent wardrobe items beyond the matching occasion. The small motif styles — Cherry Oak and Indigo Small Motif — are the most versatile for regular wear because the print is quiet enough to not shout “matching outfit” when worn separately.

Traditional & Heritage Motif Prints

Our traditional styles — Deep Red Heritage, Vintage Navy Traditional Motif, White Abstract, White Tribal — carry heritage Bagru block print vocabulary. Deep Red Heritage and Vintage Navy Traditional Motif are the richest and most formally ethnic styles in the collection — they carry the strongest festive register and work best for wedding functions, Rakhi celebrations, and formal family occasions where a traditional ethnic aesthetic is preferred over a contemporary one.

Which Set for Which Occasion

Rakhi & Raksha Bandhan

Rakhi is the most natural occasion for sibling matching outfits — and a block printed set from Bagru carries a craft story that goes beyond the visual coordination. The brother wears his block print shirt, the sister wears her matching one piece, and the outfit itself becomes part of the occasion’s memory. Our deeper-toned traditional styles — Deep Red Heritage, Vintage Navy Traditional Motif — carry the most Rakhi-appropriate festive register. For a more contemporary Rakhi look, the Indigo Floral and Cherry Oak Small Motif styles work well.

Navratri & Diwali

Our cooler-palette styles — Indigo Floral, Indigo Mosaic, Indigo Small Motif, White & Indigo Leaf, White Tribal — carry the right festive register for Navratri and Diwali where indigo and white tones traditionally suit the occasion. Pure cotton breathes through Navratri Garba nights and Diwali celebrations in ways that synthetic festive wear cannot. Furthermore, the block print is visually striking enough to stand out in family photographs without needing accessories or embellishment.

Wedding Functions

For wedding functions — Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet, and reception — our warmer natural dye tones are the strongest choice. Deep Red Heritage, Rich Brown Floral, Mahogany Red Leaf, and Natural Red Dotted carry madder red and warm earth tones that suit Indian wedding colour palettes. The one piece dress silhouette is comfortable through long wedding function days, and the matching shirt means the sibling pair photographs beautifully together without the visual mismatch of two different outfits.

Family Events & Photoshoots

Natural dye block prints are exceptionally photogenic. The depth of madder red, indigo blue, and earthy heritage tones reads with richness in both natural and studio light. A sibling pair in matching block prints creates a visually cohesive photograph that feels considered and intentional rather than costume-like. For couple matching outfits alongside the sibling set, our lehenga-kurta couple combos in the same Bagru natural dye palette coordinate naturally with sibling sets.

Why a Block Printed Sibling Matching Set Is Different

Most sibling matching outfit sets sold online are digitally printed on synthetic fabric — the “matching” is produced by a digital print file applied to two garments in sequence. The coordination is mechanical. Our sets are different. The same hand-carved wooden block is pressed into the same natural dye paste and stamped onto both pieces in the same dye session. The coordination is physical — it comes from the same block, the same hand, the same dye bath.

This is why our prints match precisely rather than approximately. Digital prints on different garments can show subtle colour variation depending on how the synthetic dye takes on different fabric weights. Natural dyes pressed from the same block in the same session do not vary. As a result, our sibling sets photograph as genuinely coordinated rather than closely similar.

Every set is printed by Chhipa community artisans in Ganga Vihar, Bagru — we work directly with these artisans, with no factory intermediary and no wholesale markup. For the full story of how block printing works, read our guide to the art of hand block printing.

How to Care for Your Block Printed Sibling Outfit Set

  • First wash separately in cold water. Some natural dye release is normal in the first 2–3 washes. This is excess dye clearing — not fading. Wash both pieces separately first to prevent colour transfer.
  • Hand wash or gentle cold machine cycle. Avoid hot water — it weakens natural dye bonds.
  • Mild detergent only. Harsh detergents strip natural dyes faster. A gentle handwash liquid is sufficient. Never use bleach.
  • Dry in shade. Direct sunlight degrades natural dye molecules over time. Shade-dry to preserve colour depth and print vibrancy.
  • Iron on medium heat, on the reverse. Cotton irons easily. Ironing on the printed side can flatten the print texture — always reverse-iron both pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both pieces come in the same sizes or different sizes?

Each set offers independent size selection for the brother’s shirt and the sister’s dress — you choose the size for each piece separately at the product page. Sizes range from S to XXL for both pieces. The shirt and dress are cut differently for their respective silhouettes, so the sizes are not interchangeable — choose the size that fits each person based on the individual size chart on the product page. If you are unsure about sizing for either piece, WhatsApp us with measurements and we will advise directly.

Can these sets be worn for occasions other than Rakhi?

Yes — and this is one of the strongest practical arguments for a block printed sibling set over a costume-style matching outfit. Our sets work for Rakhi, Navratri, Diwali, family weddings and wedding functions, family photoshoots, cultural events, and any occasion where sibling coordination adds to the occasion. Because both pieces are pure cotton and block printed in a natural dye palette, they each work as independent wardrobe pieces beyond the coordinated occasion — the shirt continues as a casual ethnic shirt for the brother, and the dress continues as a standalone festive piece for the sister.

What is the difference between the “sibling” sets and the “cousin” sets?

The garments are identical — brother’s half sleeve shirt and sister/cousin’s one piece dress in the same block print. The difference is only in how they are titled and marketed. Three sets in this collection are titled as “cousin matching” outfits — they are designed for cousin coordination at weddings and family functions where cousins rather than siblings are dressing together. All 13 sets in this collection work equally well for siblings and cousins — the silhouettes and prints do not change based on the relationship between the wearers.

Are these suitable for young children or only for adults?

The sizes in this collection currently go from S to XXL — these are adult and older teen sizes rather than children’s sizes. For younger children, the smallest available size is S which suits ages approximately 12 and above depending on body type. We do not currently carry infant or younger children’s block print sibling sets. For specific size guidance for a young teen, WhatsApp us with the child’s chest measurement and we will advise on fit.

Can I order a set where both pieces are in the same size, or do they need to be different?

You can order any size combination — both pieces can be the same size or different sizes. The size selection at the product page is independent for each piece. So if both siblings wear a size M, you can select M for both. If one wears S and the other wears XL, you select accordingly. The print will match precisely regardless of the size combination because it comes from the same block and the same dye session.
